Old papers and handwriting, symbolizing valuable records for Dutch genealogy.

Introduction to Series “How To Use Dutch Records”

Twice a week we feature a genealogy document from the Netherlands. It can be a civil record (birth, marriage or death), a page from a population register, an entry in a church book (baptism, marriage, burial) or any other record that helps researchers with Dutch ancestors.

We give a translation and / or transcription of the record. We comment on the content or on the persons involved. Often we add background information on Dutch history, culture, religion, language or traditions.
